How do I receive an inactive Florida real estate license?

A licensee may change an active license to a voluntary inactive license by submitting the request to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. This is known as a voluntary inactive license.

If you fail to renew your active (or voluntary inactive) license prior to the expiration date, (other than the first renewal), the real estate license automatically reverts to a status of involuntary inactive.

Florida real estate licensees must finish their continuing education requirements and renew their license to either active status or voluntary inactive status within two years. A Florida real estate license can be placed in involuntary inactive status for a maximum of two years, after which the license automatically expires.
