If I am a non-resident are there additional steps to schedule my exam?

As an agent licensed in another state, you must be affiliated with a firm and principal broker licensed in North Carolina.

When making your license application to gain approval for taking the state exam, you will need to send the following documentation to the North Carolina Real Estate Commission, preferably through its online form:

  • Course completion certificates or transcripts of coursework that documents the equivalent pre-license education requirements for North Carolina
  • A license certification from each state where you are, or were, licensed
  • Proof that you have passed a written exam administered by a national testing company if you are asking for a waiver of the national (uniform) portion of the North Carolina state exam. The exam level must correspond to the level of licensure for which you are now applying
  • Criminal history report
  • A completed application for licensure
