What happens if I do not renew my CT license on time?

You will receive a renewal notice via email or regular mail. Use the included user ID and password or the fast track renewal pin from the notice and go online to https://elicense.ct.gov to renew your license.

The renewal fee is $285 in an odd-numbered year and $293 and an even number dear. If your license renewal is late, there is a $28.50 late renewal fee.

Your Connecticut real estate salesperson license expires on May 31 each year. You must renew your license every year.

You are exempt from the 12-hour continuing education requirement in the cycle you passed a Connecticut licensing exam. So if you passed your licensing exam in 2021, you are exempt until after the May 31, 2022 renewal.

You must take 12 hours of continuing education by May 31 of an even-numbered year. Your continuing education classes must be taken from an approved school. The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection will also require mandatory classes in each two-year cycle, which you can find information about here.

Connecticut salespersons with an inactive license are not eligible to renew their license. Make sure you have a sponsoring broker before your renewal cycle is up.

You will receive a renewal notice about 30 to 45 days before the expiration date of your license. These renewals can be sent through email or regular mail.

Your license will be suspended, and you will be unable to practice real estate in Connecticut. You can only have your license reinstated if you file a reinstatement application within two years of your license expiration.

Go to the real estate salesperson-reinstatement page to find information on reinstatement. It will have instructions and forms based on the year your license expired. Your license can only be reinstated if it has been not expired for two or more years.
