What does the DRE consider a conviction?

According to the DRE, a "conviction" includes the following:

  • A verdict of guilty by a judge or jury.
  • A plea of guilty.
  • A plea of nolo contendere (no contest).
  • A forfeiture of bail in the courts (including military courts) of any state or country.

Convictions that occurred as a minor must be disclosed unless the record of the conviction is sealed according to the California Penal Code or the California Welfare and Institutions Code.
