What happens if I do not renew my VA license on time?

If you fail to renew your license by its expiration date, your license will be considered expired and you will not be able to practice real estate until your license is reinstated.
In order to reinstate your license, you must submit a Salesperson Activate / Transfer Application online or by mail, pay the required renewal fee, and have completed the required continuing education.
If you submit your reinstatement application within 30 days after your license expiration date, you will not be subject to an additional reinstatement fee.
If you submit your reinstatement application between 31 days and one year after your license expiration date, you will have to pay an additional $100 reinstatement fee.
If you do not reinstate your license within one year after your license expiration date, you will have to retake the 60-hour Virginia pre-license course, pass the state licensing exam again, and apply for a new real estate license.
