Here is an outline of what is quizzed on the Michigan state licensing exam:
1) Property ownership: 8% of the questions
2) Land use controls and regulations: 5%
3) Valuation and market analysis: 7%
4) Financing: 10%
5) General principles of agency: 13%
6) Property disclosures: 6%
7) Contracts: 17%
8) Leasing and property management: 3%
9) Transfer of title: 8%
10) Practice of real estate: 13%
11) Real estate calculations: 10%

Within this outline there will be 35 questions that are specific to the Michigan state laws and rules.
The 35 state-specific questions cover the following topics:
1) Duties and powers of the Department and the State Board of Real Estate: 3 questions
2) Licensing requirements: 5 questions
3) Statutory requirements governing the activities of licenses: 10 questions
4) Contractual relationships: 5 questions
5) Additional state topics: 12 questions
