What are the character questions on the NC broker license application?

Candidates must answer three questions when submitting an application for a North Carolina broker license. Answering “yes” to any of the three questions could lower a candidate’s likelihood of being approved for a license in North Carolina. However, withholding information or answering falsely will result in additional character issues.

The three questions are:

  1. Have you EVER been convicted of any criminal offense (felony or misdemeanor) or is there any criminal charge now pending against you? You must report all offenses for driving while impaired and other traffic offenses classified as “criminal traffic.” You may exclude only “infractions.” Expunged convictions need not be disclosed.

  2. Have you EVER been denied a real estate or other professional license or been disciplined by an occupational licensing agency (license suspended, revoked, surrendered, reprimanded, etc.) in North Carolina or elsewhere; or are there currently any complaints pending against you in connection with any professional license that you hold?

  3. Are there any liens or unpaid judgments now outstanding against you due to your failure to pay a debt?
